Subhadra Yojana: Empowering Women in Odisha

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the launch of the Subhadra Yojana on September 17, 2024, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. This scheme is specifically designed to provide financial assistance to women in the state, with the expectation of benefiting millions of women.

Benefits and Distribution Process of Subhadra Yojana

Under the Subhadra Yojana, women will receive a total of ₹50,000 in five annual installments. Each year, the amount will be divided into two installments of ₹5,000, disbursed on Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day. This money will be directly credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS).

Digital Transactions and Incentives

To promote digital transactions, the scheme will provide an additional incentive of ₹500 to the top 100 beneficiaries in each gram panchayat and urban local body who make the most digital transactions. Furthermore, beneficiaries will be issued Subhadra debit cards to facilitate digital payments.

  • Age Eligibility: Women between the ages of 21 and 60 are eligible for this scheme.
  • Financial Assistance: The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to over 1 crore women. Each eligible woman will receive a cash voucher of ₹50,000, which will be disbursed in five annual installments.
  • Application Process: Women can apply for the scheme from September 17, 2024, onwards. To simplify the application process, Anganwadi centers will be the primary point of contact.
  • Government Budget: The government has allocated a budget of over ₹55,000 crore for this scheme, making it a significant initiative for Odisha.

The Chief Minister also announced that the Ratna Bhandar of the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri will soon be opened, and an inventory of the precious items stored within will be created. If any irregularities are found, strict action will be taken against the culprits.
