BJP Achieves Hat-trick Win in Haryana; NC-Congress Coalition Triumphs in J&K Elections

The BJP secured its third consecutive win in Haryana with the largest tally in its history, while the National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance is set to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir after a decisive electoral victory. Voters gave both winners a clear mandate, marking significant political shifts in both regions after the 2024 elections.

Haryana: BJP’s Record Win

The BJP won 48 of the 90 seats in Haryana, overcoming early morning trends that initially favored the Congress. This result marks the party’s third consecutive victory in the state, achieving its highest-ever tally. Despite internal leadership issues, the Congress could only secure 36 seats, falling short of the 46 needed to form a government.

Congress leaders had expressed confidence in a win early in the day. However, as counting progressed, the BJP took the lead with a 39.89% vote share, slightly ahead of Congress’s 39.05%. The BJP’s victory was further cemented by notable wins such as wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat, who won the Julana seat.

Outgoing Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence in the development work his government had done. “This win shows the trust people have in our governance,” he said. Anil Vij, the BJP leader from Ambala Cantt, also hinted at his interest in the Chief Minister position but emphasized that the decision lies with the party’s high command.

Jammu & Kashmir: NC-Congress Secures Clear Victory

In Jammu and Kashmir, the NC-Congress alliance secured a landslide victory, with NC winning 41 of the 51 seats it contested, and Congress winning six of the 32 it contested. The BJP, however, could only manage leads in 29 of the 90 seats, a significant drop from earlier expectations.

This election marks the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. NC leader Omar Abdullah is poised to become Chief Minister again. He emphasized that the verdict showed the people’s rejection of the abrogation of Article 370.

Farooq Abdullah, NC president, highlighted the challenges ahead, particularly unemployment and inflation, as the new government steps in to address the issues faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
