Tanvi Patri Wins Asian U-15 Women’s Singles Title

14-year-old Tanvi Patri from Odisha clinched the women’s singles title at the Asian U-15 Junior Championships 2024. In the final, she defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen with a score of 22-20, 21-11, securing the victory in just 34 minutes. Tanvi’s win marks her as the third Indian to claim the Asian U-15 women’s singles title, following in the footsteps of Samiya Imad Farooqui in 2017 and Tasnim Mir in 2019.

India’s Performance at the 2024 Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Junior Championships

The Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Junior Championships 2024 took place in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China, from August 20 to 25, 2024. India sent a 39-member team to compete in the tournament. The team brought home two medals: Tanvi Patri’s gold in the U-15 women’s singles and a bronze in the U-17 men’s singles.

Gnana Dattu Claims Bronze in U-17 Men’s Singles

Gnana Dattu secured a bronze medal in the U-17 men’s singles at the championships. He advanced to the semi-finals but was defeated by Indonesia’s Radithya Bayu Wardhana, who eventually won the tournament. The match ended with scores of 9-21, 21-13, 21-13 in favor of Radithya.

Medal Distribution in the 2024 Championships

In the U-15 category, South Korea dominated by winning both the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles. India, China, and Chinese Taipei each secured a title in the women’s singles, men’s singles, and men’s doubles, respectively.

In the U-17 competition, Indonesia and China were the standout performers, each winning two titles. Indonesia clinched the men’s singles and doubles, while China triumphed in the women’s singles and doubles categories. Chinese Taipei claimed the mixed doubles title.
